SWIMMING LESSONS

Survival Swimming Lessons- (Rollers) Children that are at least 6 months old and can roll both ways can be enrolled in survival swimming lessons. During the lessons they will be taught breath control and how to rollback, float, rest and breathe (while fully clothed) as they wait to be rescued. The child will experience entering the water different ways as to simulate a fall into the water. These lessons are 10-minutes each day and run for 5-6 weeks (approximately 20-24 lessons).
Survival Swimming Lessons- (Swim-Float-Swimmers) Children that have been walking for at least two months will learn how to Swim (kick on tummy) - Float (rest on beck) - Swim (kick on tummy) to a hand target, the bar or a safe exit point. They will also learn how to rollback, float, rest and breathe. The child will experience entering the water different ways as to simulate a fall into the water. These lessons are 10-minutes each day and run for 5-6 weeks (approximately 20-24 lessons).
Traditional Swimming Lessons-  When children show that they are developmentally ready, they will add freestyle arms to the
kick on their tummy and they will do this while rolling on their back to breathe. As they become more proficient, they will shorten
their roll to a side breath and begin to side breathe. Remembering breath control, kicking, arms, and rolling back to breathe takes a lot of coordination. Therefore, stroke work will not be started until a child has demonstrated they can successfully swim-float-swim. Traditional lessons can run 10-30 minutes depending on the need of the parent and can be as little as 1 day a week and as often as 5 days a week. Traditional lessons offer more flexibility with swim instruction, but should be done only when the child is developmentally ready.
